Designing For Transition

Samsung Health
Role: Design Lead
Team: Samsung Visual Display Team (America)
Brief
Early 2019 trends were indicating more people are adopting work-from-home and are in need of new ways to maintain their routines while staying at home. As a result, many digital home workout equipments have been introduced. As the lead designer of the Samsung visual display (America) incubator team, I worked with my team to seize this opportunity and explore converting existing devices at home to a sports service platform leveraging the existing Samsung Health ecosystem.
Service Characteristics
To change the narrative of TV as a device for leisure we used behavioral science to introduce Sports and workout services. We set the followings as principles for designing new Interactions on Samsung TV & Samsung Health, which would encourage health monitoring for family and maintaining good habits:
1.Proactive Routines
Intelligently recommend actions through users' daily routine, so they can act on them.
2.Persuasive Experience
Make workout fun via gamification, reward system, & behavior changing interactions.
3. Two-way Interactions
leverage sensors & camera to provide real-time interactive feedback
Designibg a Persuasive Experience
To nudge our users in the right direction, we needed to take them on the 4-stop Persuasion Psychological journey that would help them stay engaged and active. To persuade users to take each step of the journey, we designed different touchpoints on the TV UI and other connected devices.
